Corey is Living and Loving Every Minute of It!

HI! I can't tell you how excited I am to be included in this fun adventure. Thank you so very much, Ashley, for not only starting this up....but for inviting me, as well. ♥

I do ♥ photos. I ♥ them VERY VERY VEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRY much! In fact, I'm a bit obsessed, but I think I might be in very good company on this topic. My photography journey officially began approximately the spring of 2005, but I got my first DSLR (the rebel XTI) in June of 2007. I now have a T1i, and I love it for it's light portability. I take my camera with me everywhere I go. I have a fabulous Ginger Epiphanie bag, and I carry it every single day. My favorite lenses are the 50mm 1.4, 100mm macro, and 135mm L series lens. I shoot strictly in manual, and have since 2007.

I am a hobbyist mostly. I get suckered into some photo shoots pretty often. I work full time, and have a husband, and an amazing 6.5 year old daughter. I just don't have time for a business right now, but I never rule it out.

I have completed one 365 project, and am nearing the end of my second. You can find them Here and Here. I have found that taking a photo each and every day has done the absolute most for my photography skills.

I have also been doing a 52 Weeks of ME project since the beginning of January. Like many photographers, I find myself in so few of the photos of my family. I wanted to fix that, so that my child will have lots of documentation of my existence. I also really needed to get comfortable with being in front of the camera. It has been a successful project so far. I'm really glad jumped into it. Here is a photo I nabbed of myself in January.

You can see the rest of my project HERE.

My all time favorite subject is my daughter. She is my inspiration. I adore this little person so darn much! This is my favorite summer shot of her. She lost her two front teeth about a week apart, and this was taken on Thursday, the day she lost the second top tooth. This photo is a tad off focus, but I adore the emotion in it...and her gappy smile. ♥ This photo was taken with the 50mm at 100 ISO, F2.2, and a shutter of 1/250.

Here is my second favorite photo of the summer. Again this is my daughter, and as you can see it was BEFORE the teeth fell out. :) This was taken in June, with the 50mm at ISO 100, F2.8 and a shutter of 1/200.

I blog over at Living and Loving Every Minute of It, and I try my hardest to keep my location and my child's identity private. So, it is difficult for me to fathom speaking openly about either of those two things here, but as I understand it, Ashley has made this private. So....I'll go for it. We are located in Coos Bay, Oregon, and my daughter's name is Makenna. I call her Sugar Bear 100% of the time on my personal blog, and about 80% of the time in real life. ♥ I'd love to see you over at my blog anytime, but please remember not to give her name or our location away. Thank you! I really look forward to getting to know everyone.

  1. Yeah!! I am so happy you're here Corey! I am noticing that one of the links in your post isn't visible. I'll work on that. If anyone notices any other problems let me know... be mindful that I am a HTML hacker and by no means a pro ;)

  2. Yay for Coos Bay! We need to have a locals get together! :) Good for you for getting in front of the camera - it's one of my weaknesses even though I preach to other moms about it all the time!

  3. Love the idea of getting infront of the camera.. I have done a few shots of myself but it's hard! What do you use a tripod and remote? and how do you still shoot in manual and make sure it's not blurry or focused wrong? Sorry for picking your brain right away :)

  4. Your daughter is a doll! And YOUR EYES! Love them! I'm in North Bend, so it's nice to be so close to some of you! I plan on checking out your blog as soon as I'm done with this note :) Can't wait to hear more from you!

  5. Thanks everyone for the kind words. :) When I do self portraits I use a variety of techniques. The one I posted is hand held. I also use a remote shutter and either a tripod or a just set my camera on something.

As for how I use manual when shooting myself...well, I either ask my daughter to stand where I plan to be and take a few of her and make sure I have me settings right or I guess....take one...then go adjust the settings until I get it right.

It has been a fun process. At first it was so hard....but now I'm accepting myself in the shots more and more. I always try to just shoot as I am. I never get "done up", as that is not me. Most of them are taken after work...or whenever. I like that when my daughter will look at them years down the road they will look as she remembered ME. I'd like to be thinner right now, but I'm not....and this is the mama she knows. She will see that.
