My name is Lisa Coole...I am photographer out in Michigan. I started my business almost two years ago and what a crazy roller coaster ride it has been! I discovered my love for photography after my daughter, Grace, (now 4yrs old) was born. I decided to take it to the next level with the business so that I could possibly be a stay-at-home mommy a little bit longer with her. It has been kind of a rough road and, in all honesty, I am struggling a bit trying to make the business side of things work. I pray often about what God would have me do and thankfully He gives me peace that passes understanding to just press on and wait to see what he has in store for me :)
I am super blessed to have my husband, Chris, out there helping me on all my shoots. At first we were both shooting, now I just snap and he makes them laugh or helps with posing and reflectors. He is a media producer for a pr firm where he shoots and edits videos that are shown mostly online (also one of his shots actually made it on a national car ad- so he was pretty geeked about that ;) ). We have recently started putting his video skills to use for the photography to try to do some photo/video fusion...we are still working out the kinks, but I a pretty excited about what he is creating with that.
I shoot all on-location (I do not have a studio). In my non-fancy bag is: Canon 5d MkII, 85mm 1.8, 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8, 50mm 1.4 and I also have a shoot sac....I have way too much stuff because I thought I was going to be shooting weddings, but after shooting a couple I decided I did not like it very much at all (except for the first one that was just a wedding outdoors and no reception)! I edit in Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5.
Any advice about my photos, website, pricing from anyone of you would be wonderfully accepted...my hope is to continue perusing this passion and hopefully have a successful business so that I can continue to stay home with my little sweet pea :)

HI, Lisa! Wonderful to meet you! :) Your daughter is adorable. :) I get what you are saying about weddings. I have done 4, and they are not my thing. well...if I could just be a second shooter...or have a second shooter it wouldn't be so bad. Doing it all by myself is just too hard.

ReplyDeleteLovely!! Good for you for working with your hubby! I did it for years in radio, never. again. LOL Running this as a business is TOUGH! But having consistent policies and having an answer for every scenario helps a lot! :)

ReplyDeleteAshley- don't be fooled...miss Grace is a stinker when it comes to the camera...we have recently resorted to bribes (usually suckers or something else sweet) in order to get some cooperation. Right now she is my only subject so she has no choice! I am hoping that more clients will be heading my way soon, but so far this year its been not much of anything. I do, however, have my first senior girl shoot coming up early next month to look forward to and I am excited about it...hoping it goes well!
